AB Landscaping

Instant or seeded lawns

From tall fescue to bluegrass to couch, AB Landscaping can make your patch of Australia look fabulous but this is one area where one size definitely won't fit everyone.

Establishing what your new lawn will be used for and carefully assessing the nature of the site will help AB Landscaping recommend a suitable turf species.

Grass provides many practical benefits to a garden landscape, from being a safe play area for children, to absorbing rainfall and preventing runoff and erosion. With good design, thorough preparation and an understanding of what type of grass best suits the area, a lawn will thrive in your yard. Grasses are also cultivated to be soft to the touch - look for a soft variety if you will have children playing on your lawn. In this case you should also make sure the grass is non-irritating and hypoallergenic.

Features to consider

Thirst

Different grasses require different amounts of watering. Generally, grass native to your area will be suited to the rainfall your area receives.

Soil

Soil is essential to helping grass grow. Some grasses are fussier than others, so make sure you are buying the right grass for the soil in your backyard, or that you add topsoil or nutrients and fertiliser to nurture the grass.

Shade

Shade tolerance is a very important characteristic of a grass. All grasses need a certain amount of sunlight to grow, but some will need less than others. Consider which areas of your backyard will receive sunlight - and also how this will change as plants and trees grow.

Root system

Roots determine how quickly a grass grows, whether it can grown in hard or infertile earth, how it responds to being walked on, how it fares in times of drought, and of course, how it looks.
